Tourism decreases in Tenerife during March 2012

The number of tourists staying on the island of Tenerife decreased 3.6% during March 2012 when compared to the same month last year. The total number of visitors staying in Tenerife during March (2012) was 438,028, (-3.1% among foreign tourists and -5.8% for national tourists). However, according to the council, there were increases in British tourism (+7.5%) and Germany tourism (+2.1%).

In March, the occupancy rate was 65.1%, (-3.7%), the average stay fell 0.38 points to 7.67 days and overnight stays fell by 8.1%. Overall, in the first quarter of 2012 there were 1,239,926 tourists staying in Tenerife, (-1.4%), and while hotel occupancy increased 3.4%, non-hotel occupancy fell by 9%. Data from the first three months show a 3.5 percent decline in domestic tourism and 0.9 percent abroad, despite increases between 2.9 percent British and Germans, 3.3 percent.
