Large increase in cruise passengers for Lanzarote
The port of Arrecife in Lanzarote has started the year with a large increase in the number of cruise passengers that have arrived on the island during January 2012 with an increase of 99% compared to same period last year. The Arrecife port facilities achieved the highest percentage increase of all three under the control of the Port Authority of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria. Puerto de La Luz and Las Palmas saw a rise of almost 43%, while Puerto del Rosario in Fuerteventura, declined by 24%. According to data provided by the Port Authority, January saw a total of 46,564 cruise passengers arrive at the Arrecife port, which amounts to an increase of 23,190 passengers more than the same month of 2011. The regular passenger lines operating in Arrecife also increased by 35%, reaching a total of 4,495 passengers.
