More ‘Blue Flag’ beaches for the Canaries

The Canary Islands will this year have 38 ‘blue flag’ beaches which recognise the quality of beaches and marinas, which is one more than in 2010. The new addition is the Las Canteras beach in Gran Canaria. By islands, Gran Canaria leads the league table with twelve beaches achieving this status. The second island with more blue flags is Fuerteventura, with 8, and is followed by Tenerife with 7, Lanzarote with 6, La Palma with 4, and La Gomera with 1. El Hierro did not request that any of their beaches be included. The following beaches have recieved the ‘blue flag’ status:

In Gran Canaria, Las Canteras and El Confital, Maspalomas, Play del Inglés, Hoya del Pozo, Melenara, Salinetas, Mogán, Amadores

In Lanzarote the beaches are Matagorda, Los Pocillos, Pila la Barrilla, Blanca and Playa Blanca.

In Fuerteventura, Costa Calma, El Matorral, Butihondo, Grandes Playas, La Concha, Gran Tarajal, Las Playitas and Playa Blanca.

In Tenerife, El Médano, La Tejita, Las Vistas, El Camisón, Las Américas, Playa de La Arena and La Arena.

In La Palma, Bajamar, Breña Baja, Puerto Naos and Charco Verde.

La Gomeras beaches to be awared was Alajeró in Playa Santiago.
