  23 people were injured when a bus overturned last Wednesday in the Pájara district of Fuerteventura.  All the injured, who suffered various fractures, were adults and were taken to hospital.  The cause of the accident is unknown.


   Local Police from La Orotava in the north of Tenerife are now investigating the case of the tortured dogs, the bodies of which were found in the La Caldera area last Wednesday.  The College of Veterinary Surgeons of Santa Cruz has remitted a note in which it states its consternation and indignation over the finding.  Miraculously, amongst the corpses, one dog was found alive and is being attended to by vets.  It is hoped that a home will  eventually be found for him.


   Local Police from Granadilla in the south of Tenerife arrested a man in the early hours of last Wednesday morning following an argument in the Plaza.  He had been involved in a violent dispute which he had initiated with staff from a bar nearby.  He had threatened them and broken various bottles during a Unelco power cut.


   A 41 year-old man has been arrested in Santa Cruz and charged with armed robbery.  He had entered a cake shop and threatened the shop assistant with a knife if she didn´t give him the contents of the till.  He left her locked in a back room after he had taken the cash and her bag.  She was found later by customers who heard her shouts.  The arrested man had 10 previous detentions for similar offences.


   Following the attempt last week to set fire to the famous Drago tree in Icod de los Vinos in the north of Tenerife, the Ayuntamiento now plans to install a remote control video camera system to guarantee 24-hour security for the tree, which only suffered superficial damage.


   Another 53 illegal immigrants, including one woman and 2 under the age of 15, were detained last Wednesday after arriving on the islands of Fuerteventura and Lanzarote in three separate boats.  Two of the boats were intercepted at sea, 6 miles off las Salinas del Carmen.
