Relations between La Laguna University and the city have reached a low point after the vice-chancellor threatened to move the Faculty of Education to Santa Cruz.
The row began when planning permission for expansion of the faculty was rejected by the city council. The department is one of the largest at the university, and is currently overcrowded. Currently 2,600 students are reading there. The vice-chancellor is believed to have said if no alternative could be found, they would look to neighbour and rival Santa Cruz.
