3.8 degree quake hits north coast of Tenerife

At 02:52 this morning (Saturday, 18th August 2012) an earthquake with a 3.8 magnitude on the Richter scale, according to the National Geographic Institute (IGN), was felt on the island of Tenerife, in particular by residents of the northern cost of the island. The tremor occurred at 02:52 hours and was felt by the population of Tenerife. After the first quake, there was a smaller second one, registering 2.6 degrees on the Richter scale, just a few minutes later there was a third one, measuring 2.8 degrees. As indicated by IGN, the process occurred at sea, off the coast of El Sauzal at a depth of 25km. The 112 emergency centre received over 1,200 calls from residents of 14 municipalities who had felt the quakes. More soon…
