The Canary Islands are celebrating their best month in tourism for a decade. The islands, which received 691,568 foreign visitors, is the highest figure (for a month of June) since 2002 (when there were a total of 691,410 tourists visiting the islands). This figure is an increase of 4.8% more than the same month in 2011. National tourism fell by 7%. Of the total foreign visitors, 297,755 tourists were from the United Kingdom (29,000 more than last year, an increase of 11% over last year) and 173,114 from Germany (27,700 more than 2011, an increase of 19%). National tourism reached only 122,923 visitors, almost 9,500 less than June 2011, representing a decrease of 7%.
