The Canary Islands were visited by 5,081,112 foreign tourists in the first half of 2011, a rise of 24.4% when compared to the same period in 2010, this is a rise of 996,598 tourists. In a statement, the Deputy Ministry of Tourism, using data from AENA, said the islands received 681,853 international passengers in June 2011, up 18% over the same month of 2010. By countries, it is noted that there has been a 116% increase in visitors from France and Poland, with an increase of 91.9%.
Tenerife leads arrivals with 243,282 foreign passengers in June 2011. This implies an annual rise of 20.4%. In the first semester of 2011, the island was visited by 1,845,675 foreign tourists, up by 24.6% when compared to 2010. Gran Canaria is next, with a total of 1,456,286 foreign passengers, a 19.8% increase between January and June 2010.
Fuerteventura saw an increase of tourists in June of 19%, while the first semester in total saw an increase of 38.5% compared to the same period in 2010. Lanzarote has seen an annual increase of 20.7%
