Temperatures reaching nearly 40C were recorded on the island of Gran Canaria which caused an ‘orange’ weather alert from the AEMET (State meteorological agency) and it is today expected that temperatures on the islands will reach over 40C during the today. The ‘Calima’ will cause the temperatures to rise considerably. (Calima – Hot winds, normally accommpanied by sand storms from the African coast).
