Rubbish collectors on strike in Puerto de La Cruz – Tenerife

All 80 staff of the company ‘Tarajal’ in Puerto de La Cruz, Tenerife are to go on strike indefinitely from today due to not having been paid their wage for the last 2 months and the town hall owing the company over €1.300.000 in unpaid bills. The company mainly services public buildings such as schools but also services the Lago Martianez which is of touristic interest. The mayor of Puerto de La Crz, Marcos Brito, has come under heavy criticism due to the way the town hall is, allegedly, treating the company and its staff whose average wage is between €600 – €700. The strike is due to start today for an indefinite period.
